Goodbye, Fulton Fish Market

Hal, ET, and I made an early morning excursion to the Fulton Fish Market on Friday, to see it, meet it, and say goodbye to it. It moved up to the Bronx the very next day.

 

Goodbye, Fulton Fish Market
 

For those not from New York, the Fulton Fish Market is an outdoor collection of stalls and storefronts on the Southern tip of Manhattan, where fishermen, fishmongers, and restaurateurs from New York and elsewhere in the Northeast come to buy and sell fish. I don’t believe we saw a single woman working there. A couple of journalists, sightseers, and wives of workers, but none were actually working there.

 

For Posterity
 

We saw a lot of fishmongers, fishermen, and fish. Also, a number of photographers, cameramen, and journalists conducting interviews. This move has been discussed for at least 4 years, and supposedly “finalized” for more than a year. Finally, finally, they have moved.

I was a little worried about the possible smell-factor. I have a crazy sensitive nose, and an overactive gag reflex. Fortunately, there was barely any bad odor. Mostly just the salty-sweet smell of the sea.
