The Best Scrambled Eggs

The Best Scrambled Eggs
Scrambled eggs on sourdough toast, served with pan-roasted cherry tomatoes and button mushrooms

I’ve never been a big fan of Gordon Ramsey. He just comes across as one of those TV personalities that’s a little too overbearing and full of himself. That said, having tried these scrambled eggs, it’s entirely possible that his overweening ego is justified. (dammit.)

The recipe (if you can call it that - it’s more a method of making the eggs) takes the form of a YouTube video. Seriously, these are the best scrambled eggs I’ve ever had in my life. Don’t change a thing about it. Get good sourdough bread, get some creme fraiche, chives, cherry tomatoes, and mushrooms. Oh, and the eggs, of course. All the flavors and textures work so perfectly together - crunchy and sour bread, creamy savory eggs, slightly smoky sweet cherry tomatoes, and delicious mushrooms. I could eat this every night.

The best thing about this recipe is how easy it is to whip up for a group. I made this recipe for 6 people one Sunday, and it took me only 15 minutes from start to finish!

Almost Weekly Sunday Brunch #1

Spiced Pillow Pancakes

A bit of explanation to begin: I’m a geek, as is Adan. Which is relevant because in my household, Sundays are the day we play D&D. Now, the best thing about D&D Sundays (aside from playing D&D and hanging out with friends) is having a captive audience for whom to cook. I’ve started consistently making brunch for everyone, since I loooooove breakfast/brunch foods, and really, so does everyone else. We began with the simple, straightforward brunch items (buttermilk waffles, buttermilk pancakes, challah french toast), and then gradually progressed to more interesting recipes (eggs benedict). It gives me a chance to make brunch almost every week.

Thus, I present the first iteration of my Almost Weekly Sunday Brunch: Spiced Pillow Pancakes. Read the rest of this entry »

Wholemeal pikelets

These pikelets are very filling, and a little dry. Be careful not to overcook them, and they are too dry to eat with maple syrup. Instead use freshly squeezed lemon juice and raw turbinado sugar (or just plain white sugar).
